I cleaned the carb and the coil on the JD I picked up today and tried to started but it shot a flame on the carb I checked the the valve but they ain't sticking. Could it be that the flywheel key is sheared ?

Other than the fact that it is green and green things do take a lot of work, it sounds to me like it flooded itself.  The key might be sheared, too.

The key not sheared I got the carb soaking. I been looking around it hard to find parts for.

Could the intake valve be hanging open just a tad and causing the back fire?
