does anyone know what is acceptable compression range on a kohler k341 when rotating the engine backwards? I picked up a used engine that looks kinda sooty on the plug and in the exhaust.

I don't think sloth would be a problem as any engine no matter how well it is tuned will have carbon deposits over time. Unless it is extremely lean but then you would burn it up before too long.
