I just picked up a freebie Simplicity 725. I bought a drive belt and it didn't fit. It was to short. So after a few choice words I looked at the parts book again and noticed that these had a Low Speed Belt & Pulley Kit. I'm thinking this is what I must have on this tractor since it had a tiller on it at one time. The pulley measures 8" dia. Would this be the low speed pulley?

Did you buy a belt using the original manufactures part number? If you have a Part # I can cross reference it for you to see if it was the belt or the pulleys being the problem.

Yes for a standard belt. The number I had was 154273 and the low speed kit uses belt # 155004 according to the PDF manual I have, but I am not sure it is correct. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Cjet69

So was the 8" the standard size and the 10" the low speed?

Thanks, Killer_A-C.  Do you happen to know what belt size or number would go with the 8" pulley?

Killer nailed it. The 6 inch was standard,I have that one on a B1. The 8 inch was a low speed,I have that one one my 700. I would like to grab a 10 inch lower speed one day just for kicks.

What size belt does your 700 with the 8" pulley take?

It has been so many years since I put one on it that I can't remember but I do remember that the last time I changed it I went to a belt and rubber place with the old belt and got one the same size. It is due for a belt this spring and I will do the same again. Take a thin roper or something similar and run it around the pulley's and measure the length. It's a 5/8 belt as I recall.
