I did some work on the lathe for a friend of mine and in payment he gave me a John Deere 188. He had gotten it off of his son in law and needless to say the son in law didn't treat the mower with much respect. Instead of getting off the mower to move something he would just push it aside with the mower thus totally destroying the fiberglass hood. Other than that after replacing the radiator hose it runs fine. It would cost around $800. to replace the hood. Not Gonna Happen!

I've got an old Wheel Horse hood!  It would be an improvement, and probably run better with a little red on it! :D  :D    Rick

The LX series sold very well. Keep an eye peeled for a parts donor, you might find something cheap. My BIL has an LX 178 with a 38 deck and bagger, a 44 Piranha deck, and the 38 blower. Very dependable unit.
