Was simply running a program "Reimage" to clean up my files.  When it was finished, all was fine, files & pics intact.  Then windows had to re-install 101 updates.  When it finished re-configuring the computer following MS updates, afterwards, ALL my saved files & pics were GONE!

Luckily most are burned to DVD, so only a few saved recently were lost.

Bad news Daniel. It's a good thing you had those DVD backups. 101 updates! Man, that's a lot of messing with your files.

Was for me too, but I had some money in paypal from selling some decals.  I had a new Acronis 2015 version so that I could make an exact copy of my entire hard drive onto a new one.  But my PC had "MFT Bitmap Corrupt" show up when attempting the hard drive clone.  This "ReImage" claimed to solve this EXACT issue, but it just dumped my files, plus I still get the same exact "MFT Bitmap Corrupt" message when again trying to make the cloned drive.  I do think the software fixed a few issues that I did have, as I'd save restore points, but they would disappear.  It said it found 2 viruses, and that I had 64 registry problems.

Found the DVD, and all files & pics restored to hard drive, except just the few added since this DVD was burned.

Now you tell us. My computer just finished 44 updates. Oh man, what have I done.

I hope I don't disappear from GTT.

You should be fine..I think it has more to do with the program that he was using to try and fix his PC than the updates.

I used photo sweeper to restore. BAD IDEA. My 2000 lost pictures were restored along with 25,000 pictures that came from who knows where..  i would have had to go through all 27,000  so I just deleted the whole works! Got better things to do with my time.

Have you checked the recycle bin to see if they had actually been deleted?  Did you by chance run Chkdsk when you got the error?

I'm sorry to hear your bad news Daniel.

It makes me glad I got a new portable hard drive for back up.  The old one was full and this new one has three times the memory.  1.5 T.

I'm glad you didn't lose a lot of data.

The odd thing was my Thunderbird mail had also lost all my email addresses, but then last night I noticed all were back again!  Now how could that happen?  Oh well, just glad they are back.
