I do not sell on Ebay at all... their fees are way too ridiculous. but I do buy there occasionally and nothing ticks me off nearly so bad as being beat by a sniper bid with <15 secs left to go in the auction, one that never shows his face until that single, snipe bid.

:ditto:  Just got beat out on something that I was the high bidder for 6 days. 2 guys sniped at the end. Ran the price up to double what it is worth. Now the next person will feel his junk is worth even more! Hope they enjoy it.

but at a live auction, if someone nods at the last second the auctioneer extends the bidding at that point to see if there may be others interested, including others who have already bid on that item

cant happen on Ebay.

story of my life on Ebay, the last time I sent the seller an Email saying good for him but to send the winner my regards, (not meaning he's "number one" either) for his dirty practices.

I don't get upset if I get out bid.

I set MY max and if someone else thinks that it's worth more than my max for the idem then so be it.

Odd tale. Some sort of "clan" here with secret system?

Yup, entry in requires a Bolens in your stable , till then your imagination will have to suffice

Glad you got it, that would've never happened to me. I get sniped often on ebay.  Adding to what others have said about outrageous auction prices, I agree and think those Picker shows have also increased the prices on older stuff for sure.
