New Member and really enjoy all the info here.

I finally got the front wheel bearings out, which had been very neglected by the previous owner, and when I put new ones in they're not tight at all.

Is there a way to address this issue or is the wheel just shot?

Welcome aboard  do you mean on the spindle or in the wheel ?
