During the last brutal 2" snowfall, my FIL's trusty Ariens was making a clunking sound. It seems after 26 years the main bearing on the impeller shaft decided to check out.

The last 'S' on the model number means it's a convertible, you can put a mower deck or a broom on the front instead of the snowbower.

So we split the unit after getting the coupler loose from the shaft.

Bearing is just behind that, right at the snowblower housing. 1.75"x.75"x.50" shielded bearing.

We'd slap it back together, but the original belts are kind of iffy. So belts tomorrow, then ready for another 20 years.

If it has been trouble free til this happened, he has a good machine.

My son wants one of those, with all the attachments. He says it will be his and then I will need permission to use it. :D

That lasted a long time. Yeah, I'd put belts on it too!

Fix it and keep using it, it's much better built than any of the new ones out there. While you have it apart would be a good time to check the wheel drive for wear as well.

Those hard plastic gears look like new under there, no worries there. Slight adjustment, then lubed the drive chain.

The belts necessary are 3/8" x 33.5" for the engine to drive, and 1/2" x 36.5" for the accessory drive.

Wow! Seems noisy, hope just the video then.  Yard that big I would need a rider, and doesn't look like the best cut either.  I bet hands get tired if they still have those safety levers to hold like on my little blower.

Thanks so much for that video, Scott. sitting here looking out at 3 feet of snow I could almost smell the fresh cut grass when I watched the video. The cut looks good to me and that's a great looking yard and all the lush green grass and leaves just kinda hit the spot and helped me over the mid winter blues that make some folks so grumpy!

Is that your mowing deck CAT or is that a random video?

Good looking convertible, I bet it would do a nice job once you figured out how to run it.
