Welcome the folks on here have you covered. That is a great gt with an awesome story. Replace what you can when you can. Be warned tho this is how the addiction starts...

Hopefully you can get it back to working and more.

 

Believe that's a B&S engine with a flo-jet carb.

Here's my favourite site for the tear-down of the briggs carb.

Note the diagonal main jet that needs to be removed before splitting the carb:
