Most of the Onan's are 1-7/16" shaft. Makes it hard to find anything to fit them!

George, I believe I have the pulley end for your clutch as I I just took one off a 1655 that the coil was fried in. Let me look and if I do you can have it just pay the shipping.

The JD 318 is definitely 1 & 7/16", so if the Massey's Onan is the same, then a 318 clutch will fit.  I measured the Onan I did have in my 1655, but that Onan came out of a 318 Deere.  I got the 1655 without an engine.

Likely doesn't matter now that Bob has put out an offer George can't likely refuse!

Thanks Bob. I will shoot you a pm then. I need to check the crank shaft as it is worn pretty good. Not sure if I can get away with the way it is or if I am going to have to fill it with weld and machine it down. I will get some pics tonight.

George, do you still have that link I sent you for the

clutch rebuilder?

Might be worth looking into now. Never hurts to have a spare.

Here is a pic of the PTO shaft on the Onan. Hopefully it shows how much it is worn.

Didn't need to magnify that pic! Almost had to back away! That is rather nasty looking! I would say that is the 1-7/16" shaft.

That wear is likely what's breaking the clutch fingers.  The pulley force tugs the pulley downward, which strains the finger plates stuck tight to the clutch face.

I think that's the JD size.  I believe the 1655's Onan is only 1 1/8", but can't remember for sure.

I happened to be out in garage, measured shaft on my B48M, 18 HP onan-  1 1/8" ,

Daniel was right :wallbanging:

:poke:
