I want to drain the old oil from the gear box out of the tiller (& the mowing deck). Can I use EP90 oil? If not what oil is recommended.

Thanks

I use 80/90 gear oil.  Been told not to use any synthetic oil as that oil works on the bronze bearings & bushing inside the gear cases.  I would think you EP90 would be about the same as 80/90 Gear Oil.

We also use 80/90 gear oil. When I did a web search for EP90 oil one of the results was AutoZone, but when I clicked on the link I realized I wasn't in the states anymore. Apparently this was a link to their overseas stores. But their site did say that EP90 oil is for use in all manual gear boxes, so it sounds like you would be fine using that oil.

Thanks chaps; I thought that was the case but it is always good to get confirmation.

EP90 for vintage, veteran and classic cars in the UK and across the world. GL4 formula is what you want.

Avoid GL-5 formula if you can. Different additives that attack copper and bronze, causing pitting over time.

Thanks.

I am going to check the EP90 I got in the garage to see off it's synthetic. I don't think it is but if so I will buy an appropriate oil.

I'm not sure that I'd even trust GL4 spec oil.

GL1 is still available, and it's definitely compatible with any 'yellow metal' components that might be in a gearcase.
