They were also a riding machine as well.

Power head could be changed out with a set of wheels and a handle bar

That's kind of scary looking. Look where the reel mower blades are in relation to her feet. One wrong move and...

looks a little like the forunnner to a Snapper rider.

Doc said "Yeah, I think we'd all beat one another up pretty well in an auction :D"

Won't get any competition from me as that sort of thing don't show up in the Midwest"

Now I kick myself. About 8 years ago  I got a red and white Arctic and did nothing with it. I almost think it was the one in that picture. I wish I had it now.

I love all this weird stuff they made. If I ever find any of these pieces I think I'll pick them up. You just don't see this stuff anywhere.

The arctic snow casters are pretty popular around here in the snow belt. I still sell parts for these for the guys that use them up here.

I did some research on this but not much to find.

For 1964-1968, the Artic 60 was equipped with a 6hp Tecumseh (Lauson) engine, and was a model 536-01, -02, -03, -04, or -05. ....It was yellow/white with a black engine.

For 1970-1972, the Artic 75 was equipped with a 7hp Tecumseh engine, and was a model 75-01, -02, or -03.  ...It was red and white.

The Artic 70 was a 1969 model only, equipped with a 7hp Tecumseh engine.  ...It was red & white, and carried 3 different model numbers: 537-01, 538-01, and 539-01.

That is unusual for Bolens to produce 3 models of the same unit in one year, usually there may be variations (such as -01,-02,-03, etc) of the same model number.

So far, I have found no explanation of the differences in these models.  ...Does anyone have paperwork on these 3 models?

Now for the mystery:  There is a model 540-01 listed as an attachment for the Artic 70 ONLY, but there is no description of what this attachment is.   ....Does anyone have info on this attachment?  ...Is it possibly the reel attachment ???

Here's what My manual States :

537-01 - Complete Snowblower

538-01 - Power Unit with Electric Start

539-01  -Power Unit (Tractor only)

540-01 - Snow Caster only

Apparently you could buy just the walking power head separately?????

No mention of the Reel in the manual.
