Working on a project and looking for feedback. Bush hog used the sunstrand pump on the HD-12 and JB tractors. I know the sundstrand pump was used on the JD 140 and some of the Gilson models. Looking to see what model pump was used on which tractors. Please post your tractor model, sunstrand model and sunstrand serial number. Just looking for similarities. Maybe cut and paste each previous post and add yours to it???? Or just post your info. Either way works.

Thanks Scott

Scott,

Just one question. Is the tag easily viewed for the Sundstand on the Bush Hogs?

Yes, it is directly opposite the shaft on the top of the pump. I have been cleaning it off and using my camera to take a picture of it, since it is on the bottom side of the pump. Probably could slide underneath and see it better, but most of mine are in a shed with a dirt.

Pennsylvania Meteors use Sundstrand pumps.  Unfortunately, the tag faces the engine and is inaccessible.  I have an extra one in the shed so I'll see if I can get at it this weekend.

I was home for lunch so I got a picture of the tag on my spare in the shed. This is off a later ('67/‘68? - '69) 1012 Meteor.

There are 2 types of Sundstrand Series 15 hydros used in GT's, the inline type found in Massey Ferguson and other brands, and the U type found in most JD tractors using Sundstrands, as well as other brands. The JD400 is the exception with an inline type. All bear the model number starting 90-. The rest of the digits refer to specific changes to the base design and all can be switched from one to another of the same type, and in some cases between the types as well, as these changes are parts or rotation direction, or in the case of the U-type, motor swash plate angle which is part of the casting.

If you're looking to replace an existing unit, depending on what the reason is, buy any of the same type of hydro and swap out the necessary parts from the old one. The input shaft is the one most likely to cause headaches. There are at least 2 different shafts for each type. If your input shaft is toast, you want a replacement with the same shaft or be prepared to modify the drive shaft.

There is also a split hydro with a separate pump section and motor section. The pump section can be used to replace the pump section of an inline hydro by removing the rear plate. The internals of the motor section can be used, but the castings are for a stand alone motor and will not work with the final drives of most GT's.

Great info!! Thanks!! I have extras of these pumps and trying to figure out what options I have in selling some. I figured there had to be more than 1 gt these units would fit. I appreciate your expertise on this matter!! Good stuff!!

Any idea what the difference between a HT90 and a 90?? Any where to find the info on how to decode these numbers?

Again thanks!

The Toro Grounds Master 322D uses a Sundstrand 15 inline, but it is in winter storage right now.

Just to add more info to the thread. I found this on another GT site googling Sundstrand 15. This link is to a WH site thread. If this conflicts with the rules of GTtalk, just delete this post. But these guys did some research on these pumps in their WH and it provides some good info in the thread. http://www.wheelhors...p-model-number/   The 90 designation is where the pump and motor are designed as a unit. WH used 90-1136 or 90-1137 or 90-1140.

Any where to find the info on how to decode these numbers?

I saw a breakdown of the model numbers in a thread on MTF several years ago, but didn't save it. :wallbanging:  Most of my info is based on a thorough reading of the  Saur Danfoss Series 15/70 Technical Information Manual, the link for which has since been broken.

Sorry!
