I thought I'd share this news from MS. They are going to offer for 1 year a free upgrade for WIN 7 & 8 users.

It skipped Windows 9 altogether, to put some distance between the new system and Windows 8, which confused many users by ditching the start button menu and using a new layout. I have 8.1 on both computers. I know most people hate it.

Sadly windows 7 comes to an end. Next time, I'll use Linux - if the mods find the following picture is offensive, then please delete it.

Thanks for posting the link to Windows update.

While I have 3 pc's in the house when they no longer become useable I'll be done with windows don't think we will even bother even if Microsoft payed me to update.

The windows 10 story may be legit, but dont believe too much of what you read on DC, its the online equivalent of the national enquirer

Call me skeptical, but the "free for a year" part concerns me.  What happens to it after a year?  Does it delete itself or just stop working unless you pay 10x the normal retail price.  I dislike being left wondering or being held hostage by software companies.

USA reported the same thing.   If you plan to stay with Windows then Kenny has the right answer.  Wait until SP1 is released.  There is a lot of new code in Win10 and given MS recent track record with quality control...

A comment was made on another site that Apple has been doing this for several year and this may have played into MS decision.  I also think MS market share is eroding and a lot of companies are looking for alternatives.

You need to consider how does bill gates counts to 10:   1, 2, 3, 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8 10

Along with uncertainty on how "free" this will be, the following statement makes me nervious:

 - Microsoft execs pitching 10 as a “service” akin to the Internet

http://www.computerd...aign=cdnnews','

Usually a "service" ends up costing me money on a regular basis: internet access and garbage collection (via taxes).  Even things like the kids playing games we've purchased on a device we've purchased (xbox) now includes anual fees to make the games functional.

And I bet you thought "ransom-ware" viruses were bad.
