I have a 318, and my Onan p218 leaks oil all over the place.  I recently had the motor out, and replaced the oil pan and gasket.  The oil spray and coating is mainly visible below the level of the pto shaft, the pan is coated and the frame too.  Could anyone offer a hint as the to the most common problems that cause this.

The motor runs fine, but uses a pint of oil in 10 hours or less.

I'm strongly considering replacement of the motor with a Vanguard 23hp.  What advise would you all offer in term of selling the Onan to raise some funds?  What's the best way to sell an older motor?  And what should I hope to get for it?

Mine used to leak at the oil fill tube until I replaced the seal.  Craigslist would be a good start for selling it and if I were selling it as is with the leak I wouldn't think I could get $50 to $75.

Replace the seal behind the pto clutch..

That is my thinking also. If it runs good otherwise, you'll have a great tractor then.

I'd replace the seal AND the gasket behind the main bearing plate.
