Those marine diesels are usually really slow revving high torque engines. That setup gives great fuel economy and can run for a zillion hours between rebuilds. I mean look at the HP. Only 1200 and it weighs over 20K lbs.

I saw this a few months ago. Hand cranking a tiger tank. Neat engineering.

Finally spotted this thread. It reminds me of my days aboard ship. We had four 12 cylinder FM Opposed Piston engines in two enginerooms on the Coast Guard cutter I was on. One had to develop a knack for checking the oil level between the rolling and pitching. The dipstick was about four feet long. Adding oil was measured in gallons.
