I am running into some trouble with the seals in my bgb, I need the seal for the pto output side.  I have the other two on the way but am hitting a wall on the third no-one can cross reference it.  anyone able to help me either with a seal or a good part #.  I have a simplicity part # 154263.  the shaft size is .875 and the od is 1.375.  Any help

I usually try my local NAPA for seals and bearings. They can usually match by size. I'll go get my NAPA Small Engine Catalog. Meanwhile, you measure the width. Good Luck, Rick

width is .250  I did go to napa and they could not come up with a good match.  I am looking and found an skf # that cross references to this but it is a different size.  skf#7443  but it is a smaller shaft and od.

Do you have the old seal still?

I should be able to interchange any seal or bearing, the original ones should have been rubber covered

If you would like to send me your seal I''m sure I could get you one OEM spec with the rubber coating.

Pete, I just looked at the schematic of the BGB. The front seal is 1612093SM, the left side seal is 2118117SM, and the right seal is 2154278.

Ummmm, well check this out. I didn't remove the seal from the bag and the seal size O.D. on the bag is wrong. The part number is correct and the seal fits since I already used one during a recent BGB rebuild.

This seal is for the right side of the BGB, the drive belt/clutch side. The Simplicity part number is 2154278, and the National brand seal part number for this seal is 450233. This was the hardest seal to find since this seal supports the shims and is about .50 thick. The interchange seals for this part number are .25 inch thick from what I've found or don't have the seal support ring that faces the BGB when installed. I feel your pain, Pete. I went through exactly the same issues when I rebuilt my BGB.

you would never expect to run into this looking for oil seals !!  what a pain in the a**.  I have run into this a few times already, I needed to replace the bearings in my mower deck over the summer, I had the # of the old bearing and called the parts store and they had them in stock!! I go up there and the bearings were the wrong size, tried to cross reference but nothing!!  wound up removing the bearings from a parts deck and going that route.

classic that is Weird about that seal, I looked that up in three different places and they all said it had a 1" od, I am going to order one soon just to be sure.  I hate it when this happens.
