its a shame we are all so far aprt, as I have one of these sitting on the shelf with the rope start also. You do relies that you can change the rope start over to a recoil one, providing you have the recoil unit and it drive parts.

Post a pic of yours as I would like to see it, don't think shipping would be any worse from IA than MN.  Color/patina is a consideration here too as I am leaving the unit in its original patina, and yes I know you can switch the starters, just might have to rebuild my starter.

I would check to be sure. i think the crankshafts are different. You might be able to use it but i think the recoil one has an extended shaft to support the recoil piece that threads on the crank.

boyscout862, how close are you to that engine?

I don't know, the ad doesn't say what town they are in. Good Luck, Rick

yep doug is right I forgot about that stupid part that come through the center. Its the one that always make the squeal when it get dry. My engine is buried in one of the back sheds, and since we just got 8" of snow I wont be going out back for a while to look.

Do you want me to buy it for you? I was going to evaluate it for what is stuck. I would expect the rings to be stuck but it might be the flywheel. If the rings are stuck, there will be a slight movement of the crank.

No, I haven't felt up to going. Between the bad weather and my gut problems I don't go anywhere. Sorry, Good Luck, Rick
