Well I figured it was time to get started on the Randolph the red nose Bolens. It'll probably take me to next christmas to get it done. I went and brought the first 12BB into the shop the other day. Its in pieces so less work to do striping it down. I won't be using this chassis as I have others laying around that aren't welded or cracked. Got the head off and realized it'll have to be bored. So I went and got a .010 oversized piston coming. I'm hoping that the crank will be in good shape so I don't have to try and hunt one of those down.

I've decided to have a different box made for the trailer. It he a few rust holes and is pitted. I'd make my own but we only have a 3' break at the shop and I need a 4'. So I'll be looking for someone else to bend it up for me.

I am also looking for someone that can bend the tub for these carts. No one in my area can bend the top angles that way. I know of a few other people looking for these so if you find someone maybe could get a deal if a few were made. Just a thought. Thanks and I think the Randolph idea is awesome. cant wait to see the finished project.

I know of a sheet metal mfr. that the company I work for has used for many years. I can pretty much guarantee they would be able to make your tub or anything else you might want. Heck, they could probably make any of the sheet metal for any Bolens ever made, right down to the powder coating. They are A & E Manufacturing in Bristol, Bucks County, PA (north of Philly, about 2-1/2 hours from Littlestown).

Here's their website home page:

Check out this video showing their capabilities:

Of course, the big question is cost. If you could drum up enough interest, maybe you could get the quantities high enough to make it cost effective.

I'll be getting a price on getting the tubs bent this next week. The way it sounds it won't be that bad on price. The guy said the more he bends up the better the price will be. He would just bend them and I would do the welding on them to keep the price down. He would like to have a pattern to go off of so I'll get mine down there.
I have another question are the tubs the same as other carts. I don't have any others to compare.

Well my metal guy finally got back to me today with a price on getting the tub bent for the carts. Now he said he can bent the top lip/edge but (there's always a but) it won't be cheap. The setup for doing it takes a lot of time. The price I got includes every piece on the tub to be new. Its total of 6 pieces, front cap, main tub, slides for the tailgate, rear bottom stiffener, and bottom stiffener (middle of box on bottom front to back). Nothing will be welded together so that would be something I could do or you could do. All the bending and material is going to be the low low price of $380. I was a little shocked but when you think about what has to be done its not all that bad.

Let me know what you guys think.

The only other way to cheapen it up is to not make all the bends on the top rail and use angle iron for the bottom stiffener. I wish I had some pics of the top edge to show what I'd remove from it.
