Hello all, a couple of questions for the Bolens fanatics here. My one relative recently reacquired a Bolens 1050 his dad had and asked if I could look at it and repair/restore it. He told me the tractor has issues with second gear so before I go to tear into the transmission I was wondering if I could get some pointers and maybe a manual from the members who have worked on Bolens transmissions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is a cluster gear in those transmissions that can be ground down over time due to  shifting when the tractor is still moving or not having good brake pads.

These gear drives have straight cut gears and sometimes gears will be inline with one another and not allow you to shift, if that happens you go back to neutral and let up off the clutch a few seconds then try it again

They are a fairly straight forward transaxle.  I have been into two different ones and replaced cluster gear, single gears, seals, etc. ,with the assistance of the site members, and I didn't own a Bolens till this summer.  I think you will get along just fine with it.
