Hello All,

Well w got the first HT 20 running great and now working on the second one. My first question is, is the Hydro oil cooler an optional item or a period item? one has it one doesn't. Without tearing into it the steering gars have a lot of play on number 2. The play is in the lower, flat gear. Can this be shimmed or adjusted and how does it remove from the tractor.

Take care

Mike

I believe the oil cooler was optional on some models but will let one of the Largeframe guys confirm this.

There are bronze bushings that go in the steering gears which may be causing the slop, I carry them if needed.

Here's a link to the HT20 parts list if you dont have one

Great thanks for the quick response, I will need the bushings for sure. Does the PTO pulley on the front axle have bronze bushings also?

Hydro cooler was an option, steering gear bolts up thru the steering bridge. Hard to get to with the engine in the frame. Shimming would move it up off the bridge which may help on the engagement point of the steering shaft gear but unless the steering shaft gear is wore at the engagement point you wouldn't be gaining much, also has it protrudes thru the slot in the frame you have to check clearance there. I believe the flat steering gear may have a bushing in it ,but don't recall. If so replace it , if not bore it out and install one , or check with one of the site sponsors/ parts guys , the may have a good used setup.

Yes, I also carry those

The PTO used 2 bearings.... The axle pivot shaft used bushings

If you are getting into deep, consider replacing all the steering ball joints(4) on non PS models, axle pivot shaft & bushings as well as the front wheel axle spindle's bushings (4) thrust washers (2), thrust race's (4) and o-rings(2). Also front wheel bearings , races, and seals. makes a very noticeable difference! Several of the site sponsor's / parts guys carry these as well.

Hey Dr. Bolens. I find myself needing the 4 ball joints for my HT-20. I'm in Canada, but can have stuff shipped to a US address if need be. What is your price on those? And since you offered, what is your discount to GTT members?

... My first question is, is the Hydro oil cooler an optional item or a period item? ...

According to my attachment interchange list, there were two different Hydro Cooler Kits.

One was for the HT18 and HT20 and was an add on option.

The other was for the HT20D and HT23. It was optional on the HT20D and the model 2389 HT23 and standard equipment on the model 2389s HT23.

While not mentioned, I'm going to assume that it was most like the same for the export only HT22 and HDT1000.  It would have been optional on the HT22 and model 2388 HDT1000 and standard equipment on the model 2388s HDT1000.
