Thirteen years ago my wife and I bought our 14 year old daughter a Pembrook Welsh Corgi to help her deal with the recent loss of her 10 year old brother.  She named him Rascal, well Rascal seemed to help her by keeping her mind off of her brother.  Rascal became part of the family but was no doubt her dog.  She graduate high school and off to college she goes, Rascal stays home with her mom and me.  Fast forward to this last Monday.  Rascal was not feeling well so I took him to the vet for a check up, he had a fever and doc wanted to keep him overnight. Next morning doc calls and tells me that Rascals kidneys are failing due to cancer.  He said he would keep him comfortable while he tried one treatment and would know in 72 hours if it was going to work.  I call my daughter to give her the news (very hard to do) and told her she needed to be prepared for the worse, but to pray for him.  Long story short my daughter and wife went to be with rascal today for the last time.  At 4:30 pm they eased his suffering.  You really don't know how much your pet means to you till something like this has to happen

I am sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is just like loosing a family member. I am glad they were able to spend some time with him before his passing.

Sorry for your loss, they do become a part of the family. I lost 2 within 3 months a few years back, I held the Bassett in my arms when the vet put her down due to her spine giving out.....I cried like a baby.

I also was in college when my mom called said my GSP had died on the way to the vet due to her stomach flipping. That was hard too being away and not seeing her that last time, at least your daughter was with hers.

Been there.  They do all find a way into our hearts.

In spite of the sadness, the joy of having a companion is worth it.

Glad they were able to spend some time at the end, sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss

I fell your pain, since I've gone through it a few times myself.

It's been a long time since I cried for a human, but I cry every time I have to put a dog down.

Never a good situation.  Sorry for your loss.  My brother just went through this not long ago.  Best dog he ever had too.

They are all the best dog you ever had, at least in my experience.

They most certainly are a part of the family. They only have us for a very short time and they love us for every minute. We are sorry for your loss and hope that the pain of the loss is eased by the memories of better times.                                                                                                                          Roger

Sorry to hear about your friend Rascal.  That does not make it a very good day at all!

Man that's a kick in the shorts. Unfortunately been there a couple times myself, and it's a bugger of a thing to go through. But as dog keepers it's a responsibility we take on the day we bring them into our world.

We all know that someday we'll have to make a tough decision that's going to be for the wellbeing of the dog. Took me two years to get a pup after having to put down the best dog I ever had, and I struggled with it knowing someday I'll have to go through it again.

I wish you and your family piece at this very tough time your going through. Remember the fun you had together the last 13 years, and know you did all you could.

Thoughts and prayers your way, from us.

It's a hard thing to go through. Remember the good times and the hard time will fade away. Easy to say, I know. Noel
