I know this is a little bit off topic so if anyone feels the need to move it somewhere else please do so. I recently bought a Bolens 399 triple cylinder snowmobile! I have been looking for one of these for a while. It is interesting how I got it. I was at a snowmobile show and I had my Bolens 440 snowmobile there and a man walked up to me and started talking to me about it. It turns out his dad had a Bolens dealership back in the 70s. He had a lot of parts and a few snowmobiles that he was willing to sell to someone who would actually do something with them. His fathers dealership had burn down in the 70s so there was a few sleds left from it. This was one of them. I will also be getting an extra motor for it from him too! It is a little rough looking but I bought it for a project I want to have a pair of Bolens sleds. These snowmobiles aren't that uncommon but it is uncommon to find one that has a good motor in it. This one doesn't run at the moment but it turns over and the bearings feel good.

I enjoyed the pictures thanks for sharing.

Like GT's, it seemed like everyone was selling snowmobiles in the late 60's and early 70's.

Nice you will have a pair of them. Lots of potential there.
Does the intake run thru the muffler? For heat, I assume?
Bet that's an easy muffler to find.

Nice deal.  Always liked the old sled design compared to the new ones.  Is the alternator on it a factory setup or something that was put on later?

I'm curious about who made the engines for them? You don't often see 3 cylinder engines in old sleds like that.

the Intake doesn't run through the muffler it is just the big pipe on the front of the motor and the three boots come off of that and go to the motor. The alternator Is actually a factory design. I don't know why tho. It doesn't even have electric start. Gutbrod is the company that made Bolens snowmobile engines they are a company based out of Germany. Then Kiekhaefer Aero marine made the 433 in my other snowmobile.

Nice Find hope you can get her going without much trouble.

The 3 Cylinder engine was what put the Bolens sleds under..... Lots of problems with them.

Ya I am gonna have to do something about the intake boots because they are cracked. I think if bolens would have used the kiekhaefer from the begining they probably would have made sleds for a few more years
