I have had very good luck lately with a product called Panda. They have a free version, available thru cnet.
It's cloud based, and uses very low resources.

it is a good product for free or you can buy their better ones

me son uses the pro model (for 3 pcs) - on his pc and laptop and wife's pc

it does a good job that the other do not or can not find

 

when I as a computer tech I used several different programs to clean a pc - up to five different cleaning tools

one or two cleaning programs will not fix a pc, three is minimum more the better

 

that is why I use a Linux OS - no problems with it with viruses and I have it on their pcs if I need to work on them
