The nerve of some people never ceases to amaze me. No upbringing what so ever. Congratulations to your BIL. The two perps should just be smacked on the head and put in the landfill, IMO. No excuses justify theft.

Well done BIL! Thiefs depend on the fact that many people don't have a close relationship with their neighbors these days.

My wife used to work for the local police dept. Her partner was sitting at home one evening in Dec when a couple of teenagers knocked on his door trying to sell him a wreath. He said no, but thought the wreath looked just like the one on his neighbors door across the street. After the kids left he was suspicious, looked out and saw his neighbors wreath was gone. So he gets his police gear back on and goes out and finds them trying to sell the same wreath a couple of doors down. Turns out they were snatching wreaths and re selling them. They were too lazy to go to another neighbourhood and got caught. Pretty brazen but also really lazy, stupid thiefs.

Hope your BIL got a big thank you from his neighbor, he deserves it. A little bit of vigilance can go a long way. I lived in a development years ago and called the cops on a bunch of kids for stealing the wheels off of a neighbor boys car at 1:00 in the morning. I read in the paper weeks later that the neighbor boy paid his friends to take the wheels so he could turn it in to insurance to get a new set that he liked better. You can imagine how well that plan turned out in the end. Your BILs neighbors should appreciate his good deed better than my neighbors did mine.

Give your BIL a big pat on the back.  We had a similar incident just a few weeks ago but this time it was the home owner who was home and caught the thief.  Thieves are people who are lazy, lack motivation and really just good for nothing.
