 Welcome to the site. Just the other day, I uploaded a set of plans for a FEL on a 1976 Dayton 16HP.

Maybe the PO wanted the Deere look. Looks nice & solid. Did you find any numbers like the model & serial on the tractor or engine.

Looks well built. Is an MTD brand, not sure what model, similar to the 990's, yet newer, more like the White's I've had in past. The better 3pt  hitch, You have rest of that?  Twin engine and diff front pto with that belt set-up. The controls are opposite sides from what the  990 models had and a little tougher dash then too. I don't know what that flat yellow piece is leaning on it??  Side cover? did you get any mower or attachments?  The mower on my White was shaft drive off that front pto on it's backside behind the front axle if same. Was looking for pix of my White, can't find at moment, cept these. One is the heavy deck it had, which I drove over to get off and on.

You have a '79 MTD 995 built for Grainger.  Dayton is Grainger's store brand and yes, the original color would have been gold.  The 16hp was a first year engine for the 995 then they went to an 18hp for the rest of the production run ('79-'93 according to manuals on the MTD site.)  I just checked through the manuals on our site and didn't see a '79 manual although there were several other years of 995.  Your manual is available for free from MTD:  http://manuals.mtdpr...me=770-8154.pdf
