Well, I fixed that puter. Went and bought a newer one, HP Slimline with Windows 8. It has an Intel Core i3, 4GB memory, 900GB hard drive. It's a model s5-1414 if you chose to look it up. Got it and a newer GT camera with video for $253! Has a nice widescreen monitor just a tad bigger than the old one (17.5" across, 20" diagonal) and a keyboard. Coming to you live from it right now.
Just can't live without Windows XP Kenny?!?! I think you got about 8 years more than the manufacturer expected on that rig!
Now I like my HP desktops but what I hate is all of the bloat-ware from HP that comes along with them! I spend a bunch of time uninstalling a lot of it. Then I build my machine with the software I want and need.
Now you are in everyone else's shoes! Windows 8 (ain't great) is a pain but OK once you get used to it. (Shell is a must in my book BTW)
BTW--> WTH are you gonna store that takes 900 Gig's? A movie library? Why now get a new HD LED 27" monitor? Save $$$ and electricity! My old eyes love mine!! (All the movies will play great on it too!)
I am still hooked to my desktop and all of the things I can do with it. Hard to teach old dogs new tricks I guess.
I too have an old hard drive for data storage as well as C/D's, Zip Drives etc... The file transfer for the H/D is slow @ USB 2.0 but it works fine for what little I have.. I thought my wife's old laptop bit the dust a few weeks ago when the H/D wouldn't start.. Cleaned things up and it's been fine since.. The time bomb is a-ticking though.. It doesn't see a lot of use anymore but I like it on trips and it comes in handy at times with a manual or information I need in the shop or just about anywhere I need it..
Enjoy the speed of that new tower and I'll try and keep my Windows 7 rig rocking for the foreseeable future (maybe until 2021?)..
