If anyone saw my post, I aquired the Massey 14 off of Gabriel. It is complete, and completely disassembled :-). That just means he did half the work. I have to locate some of the bronze bushngs. Other than that, its ready to start redoing. My plans for it are to mount the Massey 550 tiller that came with my 16. That tiller weighs a ton and I don't want to mess with removing the 3 point that's currently on it.

My other part of this thread pertains to a 12 hydro that was brought to my attention. I didn't have much interest in it except that someone managed to tap into the hydro for front and rear ports. They did such a clean job that it almost looks factory. I understand that the factory lift was a separate mounted pump in front of the engine. This one does not have that. The lift valve is placed on top of the pump in front of the seat. When the cover is installed, the handle fits perfectly through a hole that looks factory cut. Even the front and rear ports looked factory installed. The alarm to me is the fact that it still has manual lift for the belly. Will get some pics in a bit. I have'nt picked it up but its right down the road from me. Anyone ever seen this? I didn't know it was possible to port the rearend of these. Any thoughts?

Here is the pic of the valve. The seat is immediately on the right. The cover goes right over it and the lines drop straight down to the pump. I'm really just debating whether i want to take it on. It runs and drives but is a ways from being the shape I would like. Gonna need a lot of cleaning and paint. Also tires need major attention. My big question is, why go through the trouble and not make the belly hydraulic lift. Its still manual. The arm is there and lift the deck.

Interesting. I also wonder, if the belly lift isn't involved, what do the hydraulics do? Was it to lift a rear cyl on the implements? A follow behind unit with a hydraulic control,? How about the front?

The valve runs the front and rear ports pictured. Really, the installation looks nice. Looks factory. If it was mine, I would have to add some kind of cylinder to the belly.

The install looks better than the tractor itself haha. Although, it is complete. No missing sheet metal. What is not pictured is still there just off to the side. It was pulled from a barn. Where it sat for quite some time. No one knows the story about the ports.

From what I see in the pictures they have 2 separate lifts that can be controller independently of each other.

Factor hand lift and the Hyd lift with front and rear ports as you said.

Huh, I still wonder what use they would have.
No sign of the factory sleeve hitch, or any other.
Possibly some kind of blade and this is angle or lift?

Oh, and please tell me you're reinstalling the horn... Priceless.

Haha, you saw that! Its not yet in my shop. Still havent made up my mind. If I do decide to get it, the horn will be there. He wants a non running Case 444 I have. Not sure if I'm willing to give up the Case for this.

Honestly, the case would command a little more than the mf12 usually. If he wanted to do the 12 & some cash, it would make me more interested if I was the owner of the case

I have a MF12. Before I started the restore I used the manual lift for the deck & a home made snow plow...no stress at all to lift. Maybe they used the manual lift for the belly & used the ports for a drive up to unit....some type of machinery or farm eguipment.

I did the same way back in 1976 when I had a 12H. It was used to lift a push blade on the front, or a grader blade on the back. I got smart shortly afterward and installed a GM power steering pump to take over those tasks. Much more user friendly. You have to use the drive control and the valve lever in concert to raise or lower an implement with that setup, and if you move the drive control the wrong way, the cylinder will go down instead of up.

 

I left the manual lift for the mower due to lack of space for the cylinder that I had available. At the time, I was using the blade more often than the mower and it got heavy after a couple of hours of repetitive lifting.

 

A year after I installed the GM pump, I took it off in favour of a larger pump to operate the FEL that I installed.
