Just found this literally around the corner from me. A 1968 wheel horse 500 special. It has a blown replacement engine. I am looking for a H60 or HH60 tecumseh for it. Period correct. If anyone has one..shout out. Thanks. Glenn

That is a sharp looking tractor.  Probably the original Tecumseh grenaded a rod.

I don't think the HH60's I have here are any good without doing some overhaul work.  I know one was pretty tired the last time it was ran.  The other one has a blown rod.

Just a small update. The old junk motor is gone...started a teardown. Had to power wash...get the crude off. Been turning mountains over looking for the H60 engine. I have a feeling that going to be really hard. Finding that darn H60.Come on guys..who has one. LOL

I wanted to share this here. I thought it would be nice to have something related to the 500 for hanging on the wall of the garage. I found out Bobby Unser won the Indy 500 that year. 1968. The year the 500 special was made. So. I wrote him. Told him about the 500 special that I was going to redo with my sons. Look what I got back.....

Update,,,,,,,for now we are in a holding pattern. I have been gathering some parts. Found a sweet hood ornament and a brandy new NOS escutcheon plate for the front. Lucked into that piece, choke cable, Throttle cable, all kinds of stuff needed. One of the fellas here turned me on to a gent in Ohio re the H60. One of the most pleasant fellas I ever talked to. I am waiting to hear from him regarding the H60. This resto. Will be as close as I can get to doing my best work. I just feel that this is what the 500 special deserves. The H60 is the key ingrediant I need. The heart of this tractor. Without that motor it will never be complete the way it was when it rolled out the dealership doors in 68...also I have had a few leads on the correct seat. They all bore no fruit. If anyone knows of one,,,,,SHOUT OUT.

thanks guys, stay tuned. Same bat time. Same bat channel.

  • That's a hard seat to find We've been looking for one for the wife's restored 69 GT14.  The fiberglass one was only on a few tractors in 68 and 69 not all got them.
