Posted some on my small 1958 Unimog a while ago.

I started with the refurb of a replacement motor. This is a 42hp OM636 and comes from a yacht.

Serious paint stripping at this point as it was layered against salt rust with silver paint over many years.

Once clean, I can then start rebuilding and hope to have it in by end January 2015.

Whats waiting: polish all aluminum, brass all feeder pipes, replace rubber with new, got a gasket kit aus Deutchland, change the outlet manifold, new pre-chambers, injectors and glow plugs, change the sump to fit the carrier on the chassis and some ...

I just love the smell of this motor!!  Mogster

Kenny, it goes into my 1958 Unimog 411.110. These vehicles was build to be used as an Agri vehicle and as such also as a tractor.

These Unimogs ( or the earlier Boëringer) started with the 25hp OM636 4 cyl diesel and ended with the final upgrade to 42hp.

Axel to axel it measures 1.72 meters ( not sure what that would be in feet - maybe around 5 feet?).

Started stripping the bold-ons to the motor.

The rusty color on the block is from the paint stropping two weeks ago and is soft surface rust. No issue.

Getting to final cleaning before paint prep. Decided to keep some of the "pits and dent" on the motor as a token of appreciation to years of service ... After all we all also get little pitted with age :-).

Had to swing the ring gear around because of a little wear on the bendix side. Latter asking for a replacement, or another starter motor - which I luckily have.

Slowly getting there. Hope to start by end February.
