Hi All,

As I mentioned in another posting elsewhere,I'm gathering components to build a mini-dozer.

One criteria is the ability to easily obtain new replacement(OEM or quality aftermarket) parts to rebuild(if necessary) the entire trans-axle & differential as a part of the project. The 318's robust reputation makes it an ideal candidate,IF there are parts available to entirely rebuild the drivetrain. (At first,I considered using a JD140H3,but had concerns about overwhelming the smaller transaxle, and ,upon finding out that not all t/a parts are available nowadays,I began to consider the 318.)

The powerplant, which I recently acquired,is one of the 4cylinder teledyne 4A032 military engines;a popular engine for projects such as this(as well as light aircraft and airboats).Actual hp of the 4A032 is 18 or there abouts.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has rebuilt their 318 transaxle regarding their experiences in finding major components, not just bearings and seals.....

Thanks.

you shouldn't need a lot of major components from what i have read and experienced they are tough and dependable. some where on youtube is a video of a 318 with a v8 in it. i ran a 4cly 1.8 ltr in my 318 and it did fine.

JD no longer produces replacement parts for the 318. They stopped supporting and stocking parts for it within the last 18 months or so.
