Is it just me or are truck prices out of hand?
I stopped last night and I've had this bug of buying a brand new diesel 3/4 ton truck. I really want one, wanted one for a long time, and basically decided maybe now is time. I've spent the last year away from my family, and have made quite a few sacrifices.
I stopped at one of the big chevy power dealers. Told myself I'd pick out a truck not looking at price tags. I had an idea that the truck would be 36 to 40k before trading in anything.
Found a 2015 Diesel 6.6 Silverado, Z71 off road pack, towing package, Double cable, and a good many bells and whistles. Took it for a test drive, fell in love. Was averaging 22mpg on the 15 mile highway trip I drove it on. Smooth as a luxury sedan.
Got back to the dealer, told the guy to write me up a deal trading in my Camry and 5k down. Ended up the truck was 62,000 dollars!!!! 48,000 dollars after my trade in down payment, plus taxes and fees. I about fell out of the chair backwards.
I honest to goodness thought that it was going to be 40, minus 13, minus 5, and finance around 22-25k. No no....
I walked out shaking my head amazed that it was so expensive. How do people drop 50k+ on a truck?
