pulled the head on my original to see why It had no power and didn't want to start good.  Found out the exhaust valve is all pitted. don't have money for a new valve at this time. so I lapped the old one the best I could, but still had two good pits in it but seemed like it would seal better. so I put it all back together. it now starts easyier, but lost all power,  before I could drive around in 3rd gear, but now it just boggs and dies.  anyone have any idea why it would do this

Did you re set the valve clearance after you lapped them in. The valve maybe staying open to long now.

i did not reset the valve clearance. wouldn't they be opening shorter if the gap between the valve stem and lifter are closer
