It doesn't say anything about the seat being removeable in the manuals. Somewhere a while back I remember seeing something about a removeable seat on a wagon. I wish I could find where I read that. It would kinda make sense if it were removeable, you wouldn't have to worry about the box dumping (by moving the seat out of the way) if you'd put something large in the box. Maybe it was something they tried at the end of the run for the wagon.

Checked A Couple More Things Off The List!

As I said, I don't remember those seats being removable, but I may be mistaken. ....There is also the possibility that a previous owner modified it to make it more user friendly behind a 4-wheel tractor. .....Or, Bolens made them that way when the Ride-A-Matics were introduced.
Do you have the seat and down-tubes ??
Does anyone have paperwork on an M-456-02 or M-456A ??? ....I'm not sure if either of these existed, but if Bolens made a production change on the M-456-01, I would think they would have re-badged it. ....I dunno!
The earlier carts without a metal seat used the tailgate, or a similar board for the seat.
