I have 2 of those machines along with a reel master, they should have all the parts needed for this upgrade.

Look for a late 80's to 90's Toro or Jacobsen golf course mower. Usually have low to mid 20's hp Kubotas and ps.

I am also looking at a yanmar 3tnv76 engine. It is real close to fitting right in and around the same weight just checking rotation now and seeing where to plan things from there

A K3D would be  very good engine for that tractor.

It's physically as large as, if not larger than, the Bolens HT23, and the K3D should fit in that without too much trouble.

My HDT1000 is just an HT23 with the K3D in it instead of the Kohler K582.  All they really did was lengthen the hood, and use a piece of plate so that it would extend forward of the frame. That plate was used to help support the battery and fuel tank.

Here are some pics of the engine area:

I was thinking yanmar I got a couple well three of those in the barn and a really nice v2203 turbo Kubota. After planning that would have just been to much motor for the tractor. So I am going to buy an old ranger pickup and put it in that. Might use it for hauling my tractor too and from places. So I am back to the 3tnv76 yanmar or one of the other two I have not dug them out of the barn so don't know what they are yet so that's where I am I was going to just but an engine but wife told me to use something I had out in the barn.

Right now I am looking at horsepower verses fit and the way things would line up with the drive system that is in place. Since my wife to be never goes in the pole barn she won't know what I pull out of there. Heck I as able to hide my hot rod in there for three years lol

If she didn't notice this I am sure she won't notice another motor lol
