 Welcome to the forum! Your 09JC9838 is the model of the mower deck, not the tractor. What HP? Closed side or open?

Okay! Fist off, the model is 09JC3220 if it's gear drive. 09JC3280 if it's a hydro. Here's the wiring diagram. Trying to figure out why there are 2 wires.

I think the starter and alternator are combined on this starter.  I will Take a pic in the AM and load it up after noon when I can.  Thanks for your help.  V/R  Steve

If so, then someone put a starter/generator on there. Pics will help a lot! This could be a pre 1972 tractor we are talking about.

Okay, now we see what you have. Not a 1964 model though. I have never seen 2 wires coming off the starter like that. I know the large diameter one will go to one side of the starter solenoid. Not sure where they meant for the other one to go as the big wire would only get power when you start it.

The small wire is the one I can not figure out the wire broke and the tractor stopped getting spark so does not run.

??????? This wire would not have power unless starting. So I can not figure out how they used it for a power wire to the coil. Anyone else out there got an idea?

That wire doesn't belong there!
Just take it off. And wire per the diagram Kenny provided.
It's just someone trying to fix something without knowing what their doing.

Your tractor is a 1971-1975 made by Jacobsen.
It does not have a starter generator.
Charging is done by a stater under the flywheel.
