My friend Cecil quit using his Case 224 about 3 1/2 years ago when he bought a brand new Cub Cadet lawn tractor.  It has sat ever since, but under roof.  I had 4 aluminum Ford wheels with tires I've been trying to sell for 2 years, and he knew a guy needing some.  he came & got the wheels & sold them.  He knew I was kinda looking for a Case for my Grandson whose name is Case.  When he handed me the $200 he said "hand that money back to me and you own a 224".  I handed it over!

Well, yesterday I shot over there for a fresh look at it.  battery of course was dead, but Cecil's charger was sitting there, so I hooked it up and left.  Tonight I went over expecting to have to winch it on my trailer, but the thing turned over.  Still, I never expected it to fire.  I sprayed some carb cleaner into the air filter & cranked her over.  Dangdest thing...she fired up & sat there running fine, even idled!  I drove her onto the trailer & brought her home.  Battery wouldn't crank after the terribly long 3 mile drive home, so I jumped it off my Massey 1655D.  It has a 48" deck off a 446 under it.  I drove off the trailer, went over to my yard & mowed!  Mowed the whole yard & did a fine job!  Engine needs a little tuning, but just missed now & then.  I am surprised as heck she did so good after sitting so long.  Tires are a tad low, but nowhere near flat even!

And the engine is a replacement with fairly low hours.  It was a brand new engine shortly before Cecil got it, and he didn't mow that much with it as he had a 446 at the time.  He kept the larger deck when he sold the 446.

Very nice Case. I bought mine cause of my name too. If you need a sleeve hitch i have a repaired one that will fit it. No linkages though, but you got that fab skill. I wont need it as plan to sell my 222.

My bro-in-law got one from Cecil a few years ago & still has it.  Said I could have it, so I guess I'm good to go, but thanks for thinking of that for me Casey.

Great haul and a nice friend.
Really nice condition. Does the bigger deck work the engine hard or is it more than enough?

Good deal on already having a hitch. Not a problem. I can still sell it if i advertise it lol. You going to plow with the 224 at your plow day?

Oh no, don't have time to ready it.  Maybe next year.

You can't do a two day wonder on it?

What do you think you are, as busy as a dairy farmer in harvest time?

I left a charger at 2 amps on it hoping it'll fire tomorrow if I get a few minutes to play with it.

It'll be a while before he could be turned loose on it, but I have it here when he's ready.

If you need some parts , let me know. I have a couple shelfs full. Only thing I'm really lacking is good seats. Great find and great price. You get the hitch and some wheels weights and it'll be ready to plow.

Eric
