I have a 1983 Gilson 18hp garden tractor with standard transmition that I keep dropping the belt on, The tensioner pully does have a little play, but not enough to cause this. Stange thing is, the rear end pully is mounted vertical, as the motor pullie is mounted horizontal. does anyone here have one of these to show me what the belt routing should look like?

Welcome to the forum!

If you think you are getting the belt right, and the machine still chucks the belt, the Peerless transmissions Gilson used are prone to burning up the input shaft bearings and letting the drive pulley wobble around.
