Thought you might like to see some pics from the Ontario Antique Tractor Plowmens 2014 plowing match. A Match differs from a Plowday in that each competitor plows his own allotted "land" and is judged in several categories; some of which include opening split; crown; conformity of furrows; straightness; trash coverage; finish etc. There is no GT class at the Antique match but they are included in some county matches. The Elgin County match was held Saturday and our antique match was held on the same farm on Sunday. Just to complicate things a bit we had 4 inches of rain Friday night. Here are some pics from the Sunday match. The 5 pics of plowing near the end were from the county match Saturday. The first two were lands plowed by horsemen and the other three were done by garden tractors with operators who did not have a clue what was expected of them.
Thank you for sharing the photos, Dave!!! Our local match is a couple weekends from now. I asked for both days of the weekend off, from work, so I'm really hoping for good weather! Your plowmen did some terrific work. Ground looked pretty "slabby" in some places, but they sure kept their furrows pretty well. We don't have horses competing much at all. Glad to see some photos of that! Our match has become so popular that they've had to turn away some competitors because there's not enough room for all of them to plow. It's nice to see that much interest in such an historical event.
Thanks, again, for sharing all the photos!! Wish I had the time and dollars to travel and visit your matches "up there".
