I remember seeing one on ebay many years ago and the guy refused to ship it because it was "Flammable"

This one was on ebay for two weeks befor I clicked the buy it now.

yea you can get in trouble for shipping used gas cans like that I sold on rod these cans before an got a nice little letter from the usps over it will not ship another one thru the post office that's for sure

If its a shelf sitter, I would do a liner coating or put some thick oil like STP Oil Treatment or Motor Honey as an anti rust coating.

I sent that guy several emails,never a response,nice find,his shipping cost was high,was trying to get him to verify shipping cost

If a used gas can had a liner put in it & cured well before shipping, then it wouldn't be hazardous to ship.
