Rec'd a new ignition switch from Partstree.com. :reading_the_manual:

The switch looks fine, the main wiring harness plug for the switch is in ruins, no big deal. I can handle that.

The new key'd ignition switch has one extra spade connection, different angle, close to the switch's edge. Might the spare connection be a ground (green?) wire connection?

The extra tab above the top tab is labeled 'G', so I bet your right on it being a ground. Must be a MTD or Troy-Built application that needs that.

Some use that lone tab as input for engine electrical charge to feed to the battery.  Simplicity lawn tractors are prone to that.

In my experience with these, the G tab is tied to ground. When the switch is turned off, G is connected to the M (magneto type ignition) terminal to ground out the spark. This type is used on the tractors with the plastic dash (where the switch mounts) to get the switch case grounded so it could kill the spark.
