I have a craftsman lt2000. It will not go into gear to go forward or reverse. There is a rod on the right side that runs from the rear forward that has a spring towards the rear. The spring appears to be broken as it has no tension and is loose. It goes toward where the connection to the transmission lever is. Can this be my problem?

Welcome to GTT.  Some pictures would be helpful to see exactly what you are talking about, but from your description I would say most likely that is your problem.

I agree that a picture would be very helpful. Also a model number. (LT2000 is a general designation.) The model will be three numbers a period or dash and 7ish more numbers.

Welcome to GTTalk.
