Looking for ideas on what engine to replace original 7hp tecumseh with? Would rather not butcher hood or other sheet metal. Anyone here done this and if so what engine have you used.

Hi and Welcome
If you can find a Tecumseh HM80 or HM100 with the cast iron liner that would be your best bet.
A little more power and a longer lasting engine.

A lot of the 7hp Tecumsehs were replaced over the years with the 8hp used in the MF8's. I don't remember what the exact problem was they had but they didn't seem to last.

I don't think they were cast iron sleeve?
