I always watch this local consignment auction each week, and sometimes see some interesting machines.  This is one of them auctioning this Thursday....pics are better if you view theirs

Can you drop the deck on Friday night?

I think you can! I went and peeked on my lunch hour. It has a 40 inch opposed Briggs twin and the controls all appear to be nicely placed. Even the deck height adjust is integrated well. I didnt run it as I couldnt quite tell if she would run off on me. Its a pretty small deck (38"?) but it has a huge fuel tank for those long rides.

Appeared to be a lite, aluminum gear tranny. Im not familiar with what JD used.

I saw a combination like this in PA, not as nice as this, but looked like motor cycle/dirt bike front end, with a garden tractor rear end. Thought it looked pretty funny.
