Liked the look of the Cub 1641, been out-of-doors for a long time but, looks nice.

I did find at (MTD (ugh!)) an owners manual.

Doesn't run, but engine turns by hand. No battery and wiring looks awful. No key switch, fell out wherever. 16hp Briggs twin cylinder, horizontal naturally.

Deck is a 48" GT 317190. Is there a manual for the deck, mounting and dismounting?

Deck has usual rust. Cleaning and paint will fix that.

Is there a way to hot wire the engine, just to run it?

Any help, greatly appreciated. :thank_you:

The CC 1641 doesn't have an ignition switch and the wires that would attached (lots of colors) are hangin' 'round.

Does anyone know where I can pickup a wiring diagram?

I did manage just to jump the starter to turn the engine over, oil looked fine and the engine needed a bit of lube flow.

Thanks for the wiring diagram, need all I can find.

I did order an ignition / key switch from partstree.com; delivery 08/25. From there, movin' ahead.

Curious? Guessing this is a lawn tractor but, seems quite "beefy", heavy duty. Is the 1641 a wide frame, seems so?

Started looking, prematurely perhaps, for a snow blade and mount. Find listing for both wide and narrow frames (?).

The black plastic part that plugs onto the ignition switch was broken and 'lectric burned. Burn / melt was only on the black wire connection. Any clues?

Another free hangin' wire connection fit the switch on the shift lever. Does the switch, which I reconnected, only turn on lights?

Grandsons lookin' forward to barn (shop) time but would rather be ridin'! :dancingbanana:

Saturday, today, loadin' the kids in the pick 'em up headin' to TSC!

Glad you found a correct wiring diagram. That Black wire at the ignition is the battery wire feeding it. The connector was probably a bit loose fitting, causing it ti heat and melt things. I'm not sure what that other switch could be without seeing a pic of a dash setup on these.

Rainin' outdoors, grandsons going to clean and paint (high temp black) the engine baffles.

Surprisingly, or not, lots of debris.

Is the 1641 a "garden" or "lawn" tractor? Seems beefy for a "lawn" tractor. I do associate MTD with "lawn."

When the Cub had 'lectic problems, the old timer parked the Cadet. He passed away, Cub outdoors for a year before his son sold it to me. "As is" naturally. Now the boys, grandsons and pop-pop have a project. :bounce:

We all needed it too!

your 1641 is considered a wide frame. if your looking for a front mount blade, get one with the 82 series or newer lift assembly, otherwise when you raise the blade it will hit the front tires.

you will like the 1641 it has nice styling , nice ride too.

That's going to look really funny on your 'horse play' list.
Never thought of it? I'll need a new "_____ Play" list.

Definitely like the looks and the assembly of this tractor.

My 1st tractor was a '32 Farmall. Forget the model but rear tires were five feet in diameter more or less. Had a crank start. Ran real nice. Was only used by me for parades at Rough 'n Tumble in Kinzers, PA.

I donated the tractor to a boys club to work their one acre "farm".

In '71 I bought a new IH. That was a real machine. Forget the model but thinkin' Low Boy.

Mounting a new starter on the engine block. Anyone know what size the two mounting bolts are?

Original starter was removed, purchased a new one, now I need to pickup two bolts to get workin'.

The million dollar question? What size are the two mounting bolts?

Engine manual is of no help. Briggs online for support, nada. :wallbanging:

I'll look on my engines to see what they have. Have to wait for daylight, though.

The bolts were / are metric, M8-1.25. To make mounting easier, I used socket head bolts w/ lock washers.

The thread length is 'bout 3/4".

The grandsons love this Cub Cadet 1641.

This is the first ride, I had the youngster pulling a roller on my gravel driveway.

Nice machine!

To answer your question it is considered a garden tractor. Most of the time if you see those five lug rear wheels instead of a key and clip then it is a garden tractor. Nice looking Cyclops btw.

The Cub is runnin' very well. Installed a rebuilt PTO, original disappeared on the previous owner.

Found a 42" plow but had to lengthen the lift rod 2", add the cast tractor mounted lift "thingy."

The blade wanted to ride 2" above the surface. Seems the 1641 front axle is higher.

Now, work on the 48" deck starts. Terrible paint job but, otherwise very good condition.

Added chains to the rear wheels. Too much slip, slip on this icy white, wet, cold junque.

Goin' to watch local CL for rear wheel weights. I had cast weights, let a son have them. Hey they were Wheel Horse!

I'm working on a deal for cast CC wheel weights. Hope.

With the 8" of snow, chains on the Cub, blade edge turned. Great job CC!

Dumb, dumb grandsons want more snow! I like the smell of freshly cut Kentucky Vita Blue Grass! Even dandelions are OK!
