well i just picked up a 1988 grasshopper 60" mower with a diesel engine in it well the mower actually probably mows great but i was thinking about taking the diesel engine off it and putting it on my 1254 and as a added bonus it has not one but 2 eaton 11 hydros under it so that will be an added up grade to my h14 because its my understanding it will bolt up the same and be an upgrade...... i got the mower for a total of FREE!!!!!! cant believe it after getting a few yellow jackets upset its getting ready to be cleaned up and inspected

Nice score.

I picked up a jacobsen turfcat last year with the intent to use the motor.  After a good thread of discussions, I ended up selling making more than enough to fund my current repower.

But HECK, after free you can only go up from there

Congrats!

Don't mow with it, just take it apart. If you mow with it you will want to keep it intact.

Hmm, Yeah what Cat said goes for me Too!! Been thinking it is about time for me to think about another mower to mow my 9 acres with. Looked at a couple Grasshopper since that is what most of the commercial guys are running in Newton.
The $ 4- 6 grand for a good used one has me holding off at least for a while.
They are one fine mowing machine and the way they are put together maintenance is not at all bad.

That's what happened when I bought my first John Deere F935 front mower.  Bought with intent to repower one of my GT's, but made the mistake of trying the mower out once started.  Now I have TWO F935's....need I say more?

Sounds like a cool machine! I got a Toro 322D with the intention of using the diesel in a tractor. Stupid thing works too good for that!
