Does anyone know when differential locking started to be offered on GTs? Thx.

That's a tough question. Utilitor tractors in the 30s had locked rears and you actually had to release one side or the other to get them to turn.

The JD 420 is the first one I know of, but there might have been some before that.

My 1970 Bolens 1253 has a nut on one hub that you turn in and can lock the differential. I know Bolens made them on earlier models in the 60's as well but no idea if Bolens was the first.

It's a farm tractor feature that some included on GT's. It is still available on some of the new GT's. Each manuafacturer would have evaluated cost vs benefit for including it. It would have been expensive to add to a tractor if it meant going to a heavier rearend.
