X 540 And 318 Hydro.fluid

Is there 1 hydro.fluid I can use in both of these tractors,I was told that J20D could be used but the dealership would not confirm.

You can use J20D in both. The X540 uses that oil, also referred to as Low Viscosity Hy-Guard. Your 318 may or may not be using it. If the oil in the sight glass on the 318 looks red, it is Type F transmission fluid. Dexron III is the same as Type F. If your has tranny fluid in it now, you will want to flush it well so it doesn't contaminate the new oil. There will be no difference in performance.

Your dealership wouldn't confirm that because they don't know, the computer at the counter doesn't say, and they're covering their ass in case they're wrong.

I've used J20D in my 314 and 317. It works fine.
