i picked up my very nice original d4-10 from scott friday and just went straight to one of our local tractor shows friday evening when i got back.  i had it there on the trailer for the show saturday.  first thing a guy asks me if i would want another one.  he is a local who does garden tractor pulls and he told me he had one that had been sitting for about 2 years and had no need for it.  he had given another guy the hood and grille supports to put on a pulling tractor and used the seat and headlights on another tractor.  it had been repowered with a kohler 12hp and set up to pull.  never pulled it because it is geared wrong.  he still had the original engine that was running when removed.  went and picked it up today and made a pretty good deal on it.  what is there is in great shape.  trans is good.  we actually cranked it and drove it onto the trailer.  sadly the serial number plate is missing but i know it is a very late d4-10 because of the steering wheel and the tecumseh engine.  i will either try to put it back to original or may leave the kohler in it complete with foot throttle and harley exhaust pipe.  need to find a late d4-10 plate to put on it.

as i was leaving the show saturday another guy tapped on my window and asked if i would have any interest in yet another bush hog. he is the owner of a dealership not too far away and knows my mother from bush hog hq. at the dealership he has one that he has had for 20-25 years. initially he had intentions of fixing it up but realizes that will not happen and wants to get rid of it. he sent me pics of it today and we made a deal for it as well. also a later d4-10 and should be a good parts machine. certainly could have issues with the engine or transmission because i havent inspected it but we made a deal at parts tractor price. upside is that it has a factory bumper guard. i have to make time to go pick it up.

looks like you got a factory bush bumper there and it looks like it mounts to the mower brackets.

Robert the bottom tractor has a round I believe to be a 32/36" deck. I have to look to see if it was available in the latter years, I know it was in the early years.......the tecumseh has the pto clutch on it!! Make sure you read the threads on how to get it off...you can break the casing if you do it incorrectly. Looks like you have quickly become a Bush a Hog hoarder.

i believe that deck to be correct from the factory. it is the same deck that was factory original on the first d4-10 i fould a few months ago (pictured below). it was serial number 10147 with a wisconsin tra-10d engine. will be interested to get the serial number on it when i pick it up.

scott, when we were talking about the rims on the tractor i picked up today...the hubs are all red as opposed to yellow and it looks like the front rims were painted yellow at some point (overspray on the valve stems). i will check to see if there is white paint underneath. the front and rear rims may have initially been white afterall in keeping with the d4-12s of the same time period.

Looking at my price lists, the 32" deck was still being sold in 1971. I just rarely see a 32" deck on a D4-10. None of my D4-10's had a 32" deck- all came with the 42" deck. And I have had over 8 D4-10 's in my yard. Interesting that you have seen 2. Maybe the dealer in that area was ordering that way.
