Those tires are not for a bolens and he means the Z in the center of the model and serial number.

Interesting, I did not see that 'z' thanks for clearing that up. So, those little tires are interesting I'll hang onto them for now. I took a close look at a spot that was never painted over. The paint is not metallic so not sure just what color it matches up to. The Engine is as follows:

Model 8

Type 107076

S/N 564820

I'm guessing that the engine is a 1956? Thus the tractor is no older than 1956, just a guess?

If the engine is a 56' the tractor itself is likely a 57'

This should be the metallic paint, next time she's out in the sun snap a pic . I heavily studied these green paints over the past two years and can usually tell with a clear pic in the light.

Mine is the same color as this one. I thought I would show you this one as it is out in the bright snow where you can see the color pretty well.

Thats mine!!!!

If it is this color I would date that machine a 1954 or 1955

This color only had about a year to two years run before they went metallic.

Too funny, now that I go back to the site I see your name there and a bunch of your videos. I need to check them out. Mine really looks the same color as yours. When you look at yours in the light does it almost look medium/dark lime green? I don't see any metallic on there. I was looking at a spot between the decals on the frame below the engine that he never painted so it is original paint.

That would not line up right with the engine number being '56' unless they put in next years engine into a 1955 machine? I will have another very close look at that paint using a magnifying glass. I want to paint it the correct colors for the year.

Its hard to say without actually being there, the metallic faded in a weird way and sometimes looks like the apple green.

Bummer, now I don't know what color to do. I'll look really close. If I could peel some off I'd mail it to you  :D

Assuming the engine is original, that would place the machine at either a very late 56' or a 1957 model.

After looking at your picture again I would say it is the metallic you have and not the bright apple green like the one in the video.

Depending on how these machines were treated during their lifetimes the paint faded differently, but in all cases I have found the metallic shine is no longer present on the exterior portions of the old paint.

I've been doing more work on my tractor. As of now I have the NAPA Bolens orange color code thanks to Bolens 1000. I am getting the green color coded at a nearby shop. They will put the light gun to it and get me a good match.

All the tins are stripped of paint. I masked around the husky man decal on the front. I have not been able to find one like this one. It is in nice condition so I will reuse it.

The chassis is degreased. I did not disassemble the drive as it is in really great shape. I am going to mask off the original chassis decal because there is a spot in there that has the original paint. I want people to see that this tractor was originally green not metallic green even though the engine s/n indicated 1958.

I am in process of stripping the paint from the engine.

Here are some pictures so far.

I've got all the parts stripped of paint and primed. It is interesting how the front cover with the raised bolens letters as cast. You can see some lumps in the metal. They are defects not paint chips. I just need to get my custom paint made at the shop and I'll be ready to start painting this tractor. They sure look nice when all the old paint if off.

I've been doing more work on this project. Everything is painted. I have most of it back together now. I'm working on getting the decals for it. Here are a few more pictures. The custom paint from Federated Auto came out pretty nice but it went on pretty thin, took lots of coats. This has been a fun project so far.

Federated Auto mixed it. I think it may be ppg. They put it in spray cans. It is a pretty close match. I'll get the codes for you and I can send you a sample in the mail if you want. Just PM me your address.
